Ugly Buildings
Send your photos of ugly buildings that are near you and we can have a good look!
For 18 months they have been knocking up the new block of flats near the Pink House, where the Vobes lives and we have had no idea what to expect. Now the wrappers are coming down and I am very disappointed to discover that it its a hideous building with what to me looks like a complete lack of design or style for a Victorian and Edwardian town such as Worthing! What do you think?
If you have a similar ugly building near you and a story to tell about it do send it in and we can all share in your misery!

As promised, my submission for the Ugliest Building in Luton/Bedfordshire/the UK/the word/the inhabitable universe is attached.
Until very recently, the crown for the most minging monstrosity in the area went to the Galaxy Centre (http://www.northwood-luton.co.uk/assets/images/galaxy02.jpg)
However, this transcends the artistic numbness that begat such a carbuncle by cleverly combining every element of hideousness in its design; it's assymetric, it already looks worn out, it has no consistency of colours, edges or materials (concrete, wood, brick, glass and metal) and it would appear an amount of effort has been made to create a discordant environment around it of unburied cables, ill-considered atria and mismatched monuments and ornaments.
The worst part about it is that it occupies a highly visible space, that greets any visitor to the town, coming off the main flyover (which is bad enough!) for which even the unusual - yet still charming in its way - "chequered church" (http://www.stmarysluton.org/) nearby cannot compensate. Unfortunately, I was unable to take the 'long view' photo of it, because of the parking restrictions, but as soon as I do, I'll let you see it!

Situated in Queensway Bognor Regis and I would imagine built in the 60's, the block of flats in the background where actually on postcards!!!

The Strand Theatre is in Key West which a few hours south of where I live - and we visit often, as where the other buildings I snapped when in the Caribbean Islands which are only 70 miles east offshore.

This little addition to your worst buildings feature needs to be included . The award wining architect describes it as iconic, we feel chronic would be more the phrase. It is the beach cafe in Littlehampton, just up the road from your good self. It has been given the name of "the turd" by the towns folk. The next idea from the crazy gang at the council offices here is a mile long seat that will cost upwards of a million pounds to erect, but it will get a mention in the world record books for the worlds longest bench.

The first monstrosity is the Buckinghamshire County Offices, which is a concrete office block, built in the 1960's to compliment the eyesore of the Friars' Square Shopping Centre, which was so unpopular, that it was demolished in the early 1990's and redesigned. For some reason the County offices now has a preservation order placed on it and cannot be knocked down. You can see the bloody thing for miles around and unfortunately is the first thing you see when you approach Aylesbury, which is horrible when you have been on a lovely holiday/vacation and see the tower block on the horizon and realize you are about to enter reality.
The second building was built in the mid 1980's and is the headquarters of HBOS. It is effectionally known as the Blue Leanie for obvious reasons. It is a parallelogram shaped building completely constructed from blue mirrored glass (apart from a red brick supporting frame). there was an uproar from the locals when first built, because of how close it is situated to the old town, which has buildings dating back to the 1400's. It is now a famous landmark in Aylesbury. I can remember the local paper printing an April Fools joke story, saying that architects from Pisa were coming to Aylesbury to see how it was built so that they could go back to Italy and redesign the leaning tower.
Vobes from Worthing
Its just not in keeping with the surround area and looks horrid in my town!
